New York, NY – March 17, 2007 – mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced “Campus Invasion Music Festival ’08,” full days of live music and free giveaways in three of the nation’s largest college towns – Boston, MA, College Park, MD and Philadelphia, PA. Headlined by Grammy-winning superstar Wyclef Jean, the all day music festivals will take place during the first weekend of May at the University of Maryland, the University of Massachusetts Boston and at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. “Campus Invasion ‘08” will also showcase show-stopping live performances from established and rising stars The Bravery, Flo Rida, Cobra Starship, Simple Plan, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Lloyd, The Spill Canvas, All Time Low and some of the best unsigned college acts in the country.
Today mtvU also kicks off a new online “battle of the bands” competition as a unique way for unsigned college acts to achieve national visibility and jumpstart their careers. Any college musician can log onto BestMusicOnCampus.com – mtvU’s online college music hub – and become eligible for a chance to perform live at one of mtvU’s three “Campus Invasion ’08 Music Festivals.” The student act that generates the greatest support on BestMusiconCampus.com will also get an opportunity to host mtvU’s “Dean’s List,” the definitive top ten college music countdown.
mtvU’s “Campus Invasion Music Festival ‘08” builds on the success of the “Campus Invasion Tour,” MTV’s pioneering college concert tour, which has brought up-and-coming acts to campus quads for over a decade, helping establish artists like Muse, Moby, Gym Class Heroes and Hoobastank as household names. This year’s all day events feature a main stage, hours of live music and an accompanying festival with games, giveaways and other attractions.

This Campus Invasion “battle of the bands” competition initiates a new year of unparalleled career-launching opportunities on mtvU’s Best Music on Campus (BMOC), an online music destination where students can create, rate or just check out profiles of the top college musicians nationwide. The site offers registered acts regular chances to win record deals, exposure on mtvU and mtvU.com, slots on national tours and much more. In 2007, Bamboo Shoots, of Middlesex County College, won the first-ever BMOC “Artist of the Year” title, securing a major promotion, video and record deal with Epic Records, as well as a debut performance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” At the 2007 mtvU Woodie Awards, Stella by Starlight, from Duke University, grabbed the inaugural “BMOC Woodie,” taking home the same prize that helped slingshot Fall Out Boy, the Killers and Plain White Ts to superstardom.
Student presale tickets for the “Campus Invasion” music festival in Philadelphia are available beginning March 14th. Tickets for the UMASS Boston show will first be available on March 24th, and for UMD, on April 1st.
