New York, NY – April 30, 2012 – mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced that ABC News’ global affairs anchor and host of “Amanpour” on CNNi, Christiane Amanpour, is the newest guest professor for the network’s ongoing, Emmy-nominated “Stand In” series. Amanpour stunned a class full of NYU students during Professor Ayda Erbal’s “International Politics of the Middle East” course, delivering a particularly relevant lecture to the group by detailing the ways in which their Arab peers have been agents of change in the region. Amanpour’s “Stand In” will premiere on mtvU to more than 750 college campuses nationwide and on-demand at mtvU.com beginning Tuesday, May 8 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT.

“I am honored to have been asked to take part in mtvU’s ‘Stand In’ program.  It’s been my belief throughout my entire career that information and exposure are not a luxury, they are vital for people’s world views, future education and global progress,” said Amanpour. “I hope this offers some practical information and knowledge for people who are about to go out into the world and make their own way.”

Amanpour’s career in journalism spans three decades. When she became an international correspondent for CNN in 1990, her first major assignment was covering the Gulf War. She has since reported from the world's major hotspots, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Somalia, Israel, the Palestinian territories, Asia, Rwanda, the Balkans, and the U.S. during Hurricane Katrina. As global affairs anchor for ABC News and host of “Amanpour” on CNNi, Amanpour provides international analysis of important issues of the day for ABC News programs and platforms, while also anchoring primetime documentaries on international subjects.

The renowned international journalist is the latest cultural luminary to participate in mtvU’s “Stand In” series.  Each edition of the program features a guest professor teaching a class unique to their experience and background. Previous participants include Madonna, Kanye West, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, John Legend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Russell Simmons, author Tom Wolfe, rapper Nas, Marilyn Manson, Snoop Dogg, Senator John McCain, and Sting.
