HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI TO MEET mtvU “EDITORIAL BOARD” APRIL 8TH IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Student Journalists from GW, Michigan, U of San Francisco and Smith College to Engage Speaker Pelosi in Candid Discussion for Hit mtvU Series

New York, NY – April 2, 2008mtvU, MTV’s Emmy-winning college network, today announced that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, California, 8th district) will be the next mtvU “Editorial Board” participant.  The series (http://www.mtvU.com/on_mtvu/editorial_board) kicked off March 16th with former U.S. President Bill Clinton and is designed to give the college audience real answers from those shaping the future students will soon inherit.  A rotating cast of top writers and editors from mtvU’s College Media Network, a collection of nearly 550 online college publications, are handpicked to participate in mtvU “Editorial Board” meetings – offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to press key national and global influencers on the issues that matter most to college students.  mtvU has invited several prominent Republicans, other top Democrats and leaders of the American financial and judicial systems to participate in the series; the network will extend invitations to the GOP and Democratic Presidential nominees in the fall.

Nancy Pelosi, who made history in 2007 by becoming the first woman to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, will participate in the mtvU “Editorial Board” series April 8th.  The meeting will be co-hosted by the GW Hatchet, the independent student newspaper of George Washington University, with journalists from the Hatchet, University of Michigan Review, San Francisco Foghorn and Smith College Sophian serving as the voice of the national college audience.  The student participants will come armed with questions submitted by journalists from across the College Media Network.  Highlights of the session will be available on mtvU.com the morning of April 9th; the full short-form episode, “mtvU Editorial Board: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi” will premiere on mtvU and mtvU.com April 16th.

mtvU “Editorial Boards” build on the time-honored publishing tradition of the editorial board meeting, creating an unprecedented forum where top student journalists go well beyond canned answers and sound bytes – delving deep into the issues that will most greatly impact today’s college students.  Student participants are among the smartest, most aggressive and enterprising college journalists in the country.  A different College Media Network partner co-hosts each editorial board meeting, with one member of the staff representing the paper in the session, and mtvU flying in several more participants from top campus papers across the country.
