Rewards for Positive Actions Posted to MTV’s “Draw Your Line” Include a Trip for Two to the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards,” Discounts at the MTV Online Store and Local Rewards offered by DailyFeats
Additional MTV “Feats” Include Hugging a Friend, Pursuing Cash for College, Dialing a Buddy and Accepting Differences
New York, NY, August 9, 2011 – MTV is joining forces with DailyFeats to reward young people for every action they take to stop the spread of digital abuse, including cyberbullying, sexting and all forms of digital harassment. As part of MTV’s “A THIN LINE” campaign, which has already inspired more than one million young people to take action against digital abuse, MTV and DailyFeats will celebrate positive actions with real-life rewards including a chance to win a trip for two to the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards,” discounts at the MTV online store and other local rewards. Along with preventing digital abuse, additional MTV “feats” include hugging or calling a friend, accepting others’ differences and pursuing grants and scholarships to help finance post-secondary education.
“MTV is proud to join with DailyFeats to break new ground, rewarding our audience for positive actions they take to help end digital abuse, promote inclusiveness, support their friends and pave a road to college success,” said Jason Rzepka, Vice President of MTV Public Affairs. “Through this partnership and our other pro-social efforts, MTV is committed to fostering a culture of action – empowering Millennials and celebrating the work they’re doing to change the world.”
“When people decide to make simple, positive choices every day, over time really big change can happen, and impact all of society” said Morley Ivers, COO of DailyFeats. “DailyFeats is ecstatic to be teaming with MTV to conquer some of the most pressing issues facing our generation.”
How it Works
Anyone can post positive actions on the “Draw Your Line” app, a youth-conceived tool that aggregates the positive steps youth nationwide are taking to stop online bullying and abuse. From getting schools to adopt a digital dating abuse or cyberbullying curriculum to pledging to delete inappropriate messages instead of forwarding them, “Draw Your Line” visually maps out the ways young people are taking a stand to stop digital abuse. Beyond posting ways they’re combating this issue, users can also check out which states, schools or people are taking the most action, find and suggest local and national resources, and discover new ways to stop the spread of online harassment.
For each good deed posted to “Draw Your Line,” users will achieve the !drawyourline feat, worth 5 points; they will also receive an additional 50 points for signing up with DailyFeats. Those points can be redeemed to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” tickets (today through August 22, 2011); an exclusive 15 percent discount at the MTV online Store; and thousands of local rewards offered by DailyFeats. Every MTV feat will be available on DailyFeats.com, but only users who sign up via the “Draw Your Line” app will be eligible to win tickets to the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards.”
DailyFeats is a site and app that helps people do good things, every day, for health and happiness. Whenever someone has completed a meaningful, positive action -- like enjoying a piece of fresh fruit, tutoring a kid, or taking a brisk walk after a stressful day – they can visit DailyFeats.com on a computer or smartphone, and check in that feat. Users will earn points to redeem for discounts at neighborhood businesses or savings from national brands, and will discover new feats to try. Starting today, MTV will sponsor five “feats”:
• !drawyourline – Earn points for stopping digital abuse through actions such as changing your passwords, blocking anyone who’s trying to harass you or being an “upstander” instead of a “bystander” when you see your friends being bullied online.
• !hugsomeone – Get a stamp just for giving an acquaintance a nice hug. It can be any kind of embrace, from the “Actually Lift the Other Person off the Ground” hug to the “Awkward Manly Just-the-Shoulders” hug.
• !acceptdifferences – Everyone is different. No two people have exactly the same beliefs and backgrounds. And most of the time, we take these differences totally in stride. But other times, differences drive us apart. This shouldn’t happen. And when young people reject intolerance, they should be celebrated.
• !callafriend – Sometimes you just can’t convey deep, complex emotions with emoticons. The !callafriend feat emphasizes the power of the spoken word, especially when those words are supportive and directed towards a friend who might be feeling down.
• !financialaid – Users can achieve the !financialaid feat by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or pursuing any kind of scholarships or grants – an important part of working towards a life-changing college degree.
“Draw Your Line” is a part of MTV’s multi-year “A THIN LINE” campaign. With 50 percent of 14 – 24 year olds in a MTV-Associated Press study stating they have been the target of some form of digital abuse, MTV’s “A THIN LINE” empowers America’s youth to identify, respond to, and stop the spread of digital abuse, which includes all forms of digital bullying, dating abuse and discrimination. As part of the campaign, MTV is addressing these issues through thought-provoking PSAs, integration into MTV's top-rated shows, innovative online and mobile tools, and curricula.
