MTV also released Election eve highlights from the MTV “Fantasy Election ’12” election season today. The signature element of MTV’s “Power of 12” campaign, the game enables users to draft a team of candidates pursuing the presidency or congress, earning and losing points based on how their players behave in the real world. Candidate performance is determined by objective data, provided by a range of non-partisan organizations, in five key areas: constituent engagement, honesty, transparency, civility, and public opinion.
After six weeks of gameplay, Governor Mitt Romney ranks as the highest scoring candidate in Fantasy Election (25,188 points), with President Barack Obama ranking second (22,451 points). Republicans are narrowly leading the scoreboard overall, claiming 11 of the top 20 scores in the game. Governor Romney boasts the highest constituent engagement score in the game – propelled by more than 70 town hall meetings in the past six weeks – which helped him surge to the #1 spot in Fantasy Election. Despite Governor Romney’s lead in overall points, players of Fantasy Election favored President Obama in the critical last week of the season, when players are awarded a bonus of 1,000 points for “started” candidates who win their race. 73 percent of players started President Obama on the eve of Election Day, while 25 percent started Governor Romney.
