“DJ & The Fro,” “Is She Really Going Out With Him?,” and “Silent Library” Set To Debut on Monday, June 15th From 5:00PM – 6:30PM ET/PT
New York, NY - May 28, 2009 – MTV brings the laughter all summer long as the network premieres a new comedic afternoon line up beginning Monday, June 15th at 5:00pm ET/PT. Bringing together pranksters, innocent girls and self absorbed guys, and a twist to animation, this line up is guaranteed to cause an uproar of laughter throughout your household. The new block airs Monday – Friday from 5:00pm – 6:30pm, and includes “Silent Library,” “Is She Really Going Out With Him?,” and MTV’s long awaited return to animation, “DJ & The Fro.”
“This summer, afternoons on MTV are all about the laughs,” said Tony DiSanto, President of Programming, MTV. “Each of the three new series has a unique comedic voice – ‘DJ and The Fro’ is creator driven mixed media animation with the web’s funniest and most bizarre clips seamlessly woven into a narrative comedy, ‘Silent Library’ is pure physical comedy disguised as a game show and ‘Is She Really Going Out With Him?’ is essentially a scripted comedy overlaid on to a reality relationship format.”
Below is a detailed description of the shows scheduled to air:
DJ & The Fro – 5:00pm
MTV’s return to animation, “DJ and the Fro” chronicles the working lives of DJ and the Fro, two twenty-something slackers who spend most of their days watching viral videos. The show combines animation with actual internet clips, in a multimedia, hybrid style that takes the best clips on the web and raises their status through DJ and the Fro’s hilarious commentary.
DJ – DJ, a meek office drone who is terrified of getting in trouble, but not terrified enough to resist Fro’s constant distractions. DJ is just as funny as The Fro but 5% more responsible, making him the second worst employee at Oppercon.
The Fro - The Fro is completely devoid of ambition. He only thinks about work when he’s trying to avoid it to watch videos online. He’s crass and stupid but also hilarious and supremely confident, which is why he’s worshipped by DJ.
Is She Really Going Out With Him? – 5:30pm
Inspired by the popular website Hot Chicks with Douchebags, “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” is a hilarious daily strip that aims to tear down the mystery behind pop culture’s latest unexplainable phenomenon- beautiful and innocent young sweethearts who fall for self-absorbed, overly-tanned, tattoo covered tools. After scouring the country for the most fertile bad boy breeding grounds, the show investigates every variety, each with their own language, lifestyle and over-the-top persona. Using the comedic viewpoint of our narrator, each episode will break down one relationship, focusing in on the self-absorbed dude and the girl who loves him. Along the way, our leading lady is armed with the helping hand and guidance of her loyal BFF, but in the end she will ultimately have to make a fateful decision. Will she stay with her bloke of a boyfriend or move on to a better man?
Silent Library – 6:00pm
Modeled after a Japanese game show, “Silent Library” will test the composure, endurance and determination of six friends who will have to watch as “one of their own” is subjected to unbelievable challenges ranging from brushing one’s teeth with wasabi to having their face held in the path of the dreaded slapping machine.
Within each episode of “Silent Library,” a team of six friends will draw cards to determine who must step up to the plate to endure the next “test.” The teammate who unluckily draws the skull and crossbones card will have to complete the task at hand to the satisfaction of the host and moderator of Silent Library. Should a teammate not last long enough as they perform the stunt or should their friends seated beside them break the one rule of the library, silence, they’ll lose out on winning big cash prizes.
