RateMyProfessors.com Launches iPhone App Connecting College Students to Professor Ratings on the Go

Students Can Now Access and Rate the Site’s Database of Over 1 Million Professors in Nearly 6,000 Schools Anywhere from the Classroom to the Quad

RateMyProfessors.com, the Internet’s largest destination for professor ratings, today announced the launch of a RateMyProfessors.com iPhone application that gives students direct access to the site’s database of over 1 million professors in nearly 6,000 schools straight from their iPhone.  The iPhone app, available at the iTunes App Store for $ .99, allows college students to rate their favorite- and not-so favorite – professors on campus.  Additionally, students can check out professor stats, read some of the 10 million comments from students around the country, or add professors to their “favorite” lists.

“College students are constantly on the move,” said Chris McCarthy, Senior Vice President of Strategic Development and Digital TV Networks, MTV.  “By launching the new RateMyProfessors.com iPhone app, we’re giving them the freedom to post a review right after a lecture, without having to wait to get back to their laptops.”

RateMyProfessors.com and the new RateMyProfessors.com iPhone app help students do what they’ve been doing forever - check in with each other- their friends, their brothers, their sisters - to figure out which professors they’ll register with next semester, and which professors they may want to avoid.  Choosing the best courses and professors is a rite of passage for every college student, and connecting with peers on RateMyProfessors.com has become a key way millions of students now navigate this process.

RateMyProfessors.com, which is owned and operated by MTV’s college network, mtvU, is built for college students, by college students.  RateMyProfessors.com experienced nearly 18 percent growth in unique visitors in 2009, year over year.  Additionally, out of the 10 million student comments already on the site, approximately 1.2 million comments were generated in 2009 alone.
